PR Consultant – Devesh Purohit
Contribution to Environment – Environment protection is completely our responsibility. At a personal level, whenever possible, I try to teach school and college-going students on 17 UN SDGs and give them an insight into why they are important. I think children are the future and they should understand the basics. Paulo Coelho mentioned in his novel The Winner Stands Alone very well that we humans are so arrogant to think that we can protect the planet forgetting that the planet existed before us and it will continue to exist wiping us out if we become a barrier. I completely agree with him. Being a PR Professional has given me a lot of insights into Green Education, ESG, Sustainability, Circular Economy and environmentalism. I think the governments, corporates and citizens should collectively contribute for a holistic growth and sustainability.

By supporting initiatives that promote sustainable values, UFlex is actively working toward tangible solutions that protect our ecosystems for future generations.” By emphasizing the importance of tackling plastic pollution for a healthier planet, Anantshree Chaturvedi, Vice Chairman and CEO, Flex Films International, said, “Protecting the environment requires a united effort that we all understand and comprehend. The challenge of ‘Planet vs Plastics’ is a call to action for all of us. The truth is only the planet will survive. Plastic will either be there as a benefit or a menace. UFlex is hoping and working toward the former. Environmental protection and economic growth are not in conflict; they drive growth, innovation and wealth creation and distribution. The greatest economic opportunity of the twenty-first century lies in green technology, and private enterprises must take the lead in making this change for future generations. At UFlex, our dedication drives us to innovate continuously. Our portfolio includes low-carbon footprint films, mono-PE-based structures for easy recycling, and water-based inks, all designed to keep plastic within the economy and out of the environment. This Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR) line converts PET bottle waste into resin chips, which are upcycled to manufacture our green packaging film with PCR content, called Asclepius. The Post-Consumer Plastic Recyclate (PCPR) line processes mixed plastic MLP waste into granules used to make various industrial and household products. We have replicated these efforts globally with recycling plants in Poland, Mexico, and recently in Egypt, processing nearly 30,000 MT of plastic waste annually, with a goal to reach 100,000 MT.
As we face critical issues like plastic waste and other environmental challenges, taking proactive steps to safeguard our planet is essential. The reality is that there is no planet B, no alternate universe and no other options. We must make it work with the resources we have today. This makes it crucial for organizations worldwide to act decisively today and not wait for legislation or consumer demand to force their hand tomorrow. Only by doing so can we provide a sustainable ecosystem for future generations that we can be proud of ourselves.”

Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer – Mr. Vinukumar Balakrishnan
Contribution to Environment – Protecting the environment is often left to a handful of agencies of the Government and a few industries such as oil & gas, transportation, renewable energy etc. The reality on the other hand is that we face daunting challenges which can be surpassed only by sustained efforts from industries without exception and society at large. It is critical to understand that consumption drives everything that matters and consumption is driven by the common man. The time has come when the common man has to wake up to the new realities and think hard about how her/his consumption is fed and whether her/his consumption is environment friendly. The undeniable reality is that if demand is generated then the market will respond regardless of the environmental impact and there is only so much laws and regulations can do. It is our duty to protect and restore our planet, particularly focusing on reducing our energy needs, water utilisation, our personal carbon footprint, land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. Expanding city gas distribution networks, is a small but definitive measure towards conserving the planet. Natural Gas is a transition fuel which will see us through the next two decades as we develop the technologies and the ecosystem required to make renewal energy and new age fuels such as Hydrogen sustainable and affordable. Through initiatives aimed at promoting the use of natural gas, we support the broader goal of environmental restoration and resilience.”

Managing Director Tabreed Asia & Country Manager, India – Mr. Sudheer Perla
Contribution to Environment – As human-induced activity is resulting in the planet breaching 6 out of 9 boundaries for a re-generative earth, it is ironical we need a World Environment Day to remind us to live within the means of the planet and in harmony with all life on earth.
Narrow sighted focus on decarbonization or supply-side technology innovations like renewable energy adoption manipulates our perception of reality on the back of unchecked and rampant consumption-growth driven by a lopsided focus on GDP, than on reducing inequality or inculcating mindful consumption whilst significantly enhancing circularity in every aspect of what we take out and consume from the planet.
Demand-side efforts are inherently more complex and often only possible through systems thinking and non-linear approaches in planning with a greater degree of care in execution. If capable of being implemented though, for example through adoption of district energy systems within an urban setting to provide thermal comfort with remarkably higher efficiencies and also providing avenues for water, waste and energy circularity whilst accelerating renewable energy adoption, the benefits towards meeting the currently siloed goals around sustainability can be immense.
The innovation we need here is more seamless governance and regulatory models between ministries, centre, state and cities on one hand, alongside business models that cut across sectors and partnerships that transcend between for and not for profit entities.

Jet Set Go
Chief Strategy Officer – Mr. Jonathan Sumner
Contribution to Environment – With 2-3% of global carbon emissions the Aviation industry faces a significant challenge with decarbonisation and this continues to grow as air travel is booming in India. Despite the promise of operational efficiencies, carbon offset programs, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), and emerging technologies like electric and hydrogen power, progress on tackling emissions has been slow and solutions for decarbonisation are almost all long term in nature. In the short term, carbon offsets leveraging nature-based solutions have often been exposed as ineffective, yet we must double-down in finding the programs that work as well as investing in the technologies of the future. The Indian Aviation Industry can lead on the most effective strategies to tackle emissions with a multi-faceted approach including verifiable carbon offset programs, investment in SAF, and exploring new electric, hybrid and hydrogen-based propulsion technologies. Sustainability and the adoption of greener policies is a challenge we must rise to in this industry. Therefore, this World Environment Day, let us collectively pledge to our planet that we will utilize every available technology and innovation to create a better, more sustainable world.
