Powered Off Finding API

According to a report from Android Police, Google will introduce a new Powered Off Finding API in Android 15. This API will enable users to locate their devices even when they are powered off. The system operates by storing pre-computed Bluetooth beacons within the memory of the Bluetooth controller.

Hardware Requirements and Device Compatibility

However, not all devices running on Android 15 will support this feature. Specialized hardware will be required, limiting its availability. While newer devices like Google Pixel 9 are expected to support this feature, older devices may not meet the necessary hardware specifications. The Pixel 8, for instance, could support this feature due to its compatible hardware. It’s important to note that even when the phone is switched off, this feature will consume some battery power.

Google has not provided a specific release date for Android 15. However, it is anticipated to be officially rolled out around mid-2024. The rollout is expected to commence with the Pixel 9 series, followed by other manufacturers like Samsung incorporating it into their flagship devices as per the industry trend.
