  • Honda Performance Development (HPD) in Southern California is the North American racing division of American Honda.
  • The Rebelle Rally is a unique competition where teams navigate over challenging terrain without the use of GPS or cellular navigation.

Honda, with associates and a journalist, readies for an exciting Rebelle Rally off-road adventure, joining the 2023 challenge . The brutal eight-day desert off-road challenge tests human and machine limits amidst the American Southwest’s harsh conditions. With three teams participating in the all-women navigation event, the rally will test the Honda Pilot TrailSport and Passport TrailSport’s handling, capability, and durability.

Honda’s Legacy in Off-Road Performance

Honda women engineers will participate in the Rebelle Rally, a 1,500-mile desert race in California and Nevada, for the sixth year in 2019. The event offers the ideal chance to investigate the tough capabilities of Honda’s off-road components in harsh situations. The 2023 Pilot TrailSport includes steel skid plates to protect the fuel tank and oil pan. The skid plates used in earlier Honda Rebelle Rally competition vehicles inspired these. The Pilot TrailSport includes upgraded off-road suspension, all-terrain tires, and enhanced all-wheel drive for exceptional trail performance.

The Honda Teams

The X-Cross division will include all three Honda teams. Two of these teams are made up of Honda employees, demonstrating the skill and commitment of Honda’s staff. Liz Long, a chassis reliability test engineer, and Hillary Tate, a project administrator for Honda sites, will drive the race-ready Honda Pilot TrailSport at the Honda Auto Development Center. HART, the Honda of America Racing Team, is a special racing project managed by Honda employees nationwide, and they’re proud to be involved.

Honda Performance Development’s (HPD) Contribution

Honda Performance Development (HPD) in Southern California is the North American racing division of American Honda. Serena Halterman and Nicole Rotondo, HPD trackside racing engineers for INDYCAR, were awarded a fully equipped Passport TrailSport for the Rebelle Rally. Their voyage will include excitement because this will be their first Rebelle Rally.

Rebelle Rally Veterans and Award-Winning Journalist

Mercedes Lilienthal, a renowned automotive writer, will conquer tough terrain alongside partner Emily Winslow in a Honda Pilot TrailSport. Based in Portland, Oregon, Lilienthal will be participating in the Rebelle Rally for the fourth time. Winslow, hailing from near Seattle, Washington, brings valuable expertise to the team as a six-time Rebelle Rally participant.

The Essence of the Rebelle Rally

Teams in the Rebelle Rally conquer tough terrain without GPS or cell navigation, making it an exceptional competition. It is not a speed contest. The primary resources for locating hidden checkpoints and gaining points are conventional features like paper maps, compasses, and headings. The ultimate goal is to cross the finish line each day while accruing the most points possible.
