Cinematic Love

Authored article by Ms Divya Mohindroo, Counselling Psychologist /Founder, Embrace Imperfections

As a psychologist I always encourage everyone to enjoy content, however one must make a conscious understanding that fairy tales are not always true , all endings cannot be happy & that the world is different from the lives we lead .

The reel world is different from the real world we live in .

In fairy tales we see that a prince suddenly comes into the princess life, solves all her problems & then comes the happily ever after which almost never happens in real life love .

Real love comes with its own ups & downs , it never happens that you find a magical human being who solves all the mess in your life. It’s more about getting together with acceptance of each other’s good & bad working towards a better future .

Fairy Tales we saw growing up have set unrealistic expectations we have with people.

The cinematic world shows us that love needs no effort, perfect matches fall in our lap & everything then falls in place but that’s not how real love is found in life it requires effort , hard work  , sacrifice .

Embrace the Imperfections of Love

Real love is tough. It’s not always filled with happiness .

It involves difficult conversations, gestures , and at times ,failure .

When you embrace the imperfections of love, you stop having unrealistic expectations , and you start loving the reality of the person & relationship .

Let Go of “ Forever & Ever “

There’s no such thing as forever always in relationships.

Relationships are ever changing, it is a forever process of ups & downs .

If you keep waiting & thinking, when will you settle it will never happen , relationships have to be built everyday with constant work .

Everything good & bad , is part of the journey.

Give Love a New Name

Companionship isn’t about big  gestures or just words of love .

It’s about the tiny little day to day efforts  that indicate true  concern and love.

Every partner wants to feel love , reciprocation & appreciation .

Give love a new meaning  & start finding it in the small joys not in big milestones.

Accept Disputes are inevitable

In the Disney world the prince & princess always unite happily ever after without any fights , disagreements or separation.

In life quarrels , disputes are a part of love. In life happiness is all about perception & acceptance of each other’s flaws. The obsession of finding red flags should be left behind & people should learn how to embrace the bad & enhance the good , that’s the only way of creating a perfect union in between two imperfect people each with their own set of values & experiences

Real love is the best because it’s natural, not scripted , not forced , not unreal .

As a psychologist who sees relationships failing each day due to drama , unrealistic expectations & inhuman behaviour I would encourage everyone who wants partnership in their life to look for something which is deep , genuine , mutual & meaningful . Let go of everything else. However if you are in a relationship which is abusive , toxic or unfaithful then you have the full right to walk out with self respect .

Commitment is where true magic lies .
