To provide K–8 children in Central New York first-hand exposure to semiconductors, Micron Technology, Inc. and the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) recently cut the ribbon on a new permanent display. The sponsored exhibit, “DECONSTRUCTED: Semiconductors and Other Secrets Inside Everyday Technology,” has hands-on educational activities. Micron is the show’s sponsor.
Community Investment Framework and Micron’s Commitment
- The Community Investment Framework, which Micron unveiled in October 2022, called for an investment of up to $100 billion spread over more than 20 years to build a new mega fab in Clay, New York.
- The goal of the deal between Micron and New York State was to give the workforce in Central New York the training necessary for producing sophisticated semiconductors.
- Micron sponsored the MOST with $500,000 under the Community Investment Framework, demonstrating their dedication to contributing to local communities.

MOST and Micron Collaboration

- To guarantee inclusion and address the needs of the Central New York community, the MOST / Micron Exhibit Advisory Group, which included officials from MOST, Micron, regional school districts, and community groups, met regularly.
Exhibit Overview
- A 1,200-square-foot display with four sections called “DECONSTRUCTED: Semiconductors and Other Secrets Inside Everyday Technology” was created using universal design principles to be accessible.
- The Inside a Chip section examines different memory types and storage unit parts through interactive activities.
- Deconstructed: Examines the development, use, and manufacturing of memory chips while showcasing well-known goods and the chips that drive them.
- The Skill Bar: Presents a variety of potential vocations in the semiconductor industry through video interviews with Micron workers.
- Meet Micron: Features a variety of cutting-edge products made by Micron and Crucial, projects created by students in Micron’s STEM education program, and a model of a chip manufacturing facility built by students from the East Syracuse Minoa School District.
- The display encourages practical STEM education, which aligns with MOST’s purpose.
Micron’s Perspective
- April Arnzen, Micron’s senior VP, and Micron Foundation president conveyed the thrill of showcasing inventions, demystifying technology for kids and families.
- Micron is committed to developing the future workforce and igniting young people’s interest in STEM.

Exhibit Opening
- On Wednesday, August 2, the exhibit will be accessible to member families and educators. The formal opening will take place on Thursday, August 3.
