In a sea of dating apps that fall short of fostering genuine friendships, India sees the launch of an exclusive friendship app called ‘Alyke’ to solve the loneliness problem among today’s youngsters. According to the World Health Organisation, loneliness is a pressing global health threat with a mortality effect similar to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. In addition, research indicates that holidays are not always exciting and fun-filled for everyone, and this trend is seen globally. In fact, during a survey by the American Psychological Association, a whopping 44% of women and 33% of men reported increased stress during the holidays, with loneliness being one of the reasons for elevation in stress levels.
Alyke is a newly launched app that is different from other existing apps in the industry as it allows space for true friendships to thrive and not something disguised as friendship as is seen on almost all the available dating apps even when they claim otherwise. Currently available on Android phones, the app will soon expand its reach to iOS in early 2024.

Statement
Speaking on the inspiration behind concocting Alyke, Mr Jyotiraditya Vajpayee, Founder and CEO of Alyke, says, “During one of my solo trips to London, I wanted to connect with people but was not able to as I could not find people that matched my interest. The only available options I had were dating apps which I was not looking forward to as I was seeking friendship. That served as a motivation to build a friendship app that could help people make meaningful connections, ones that go beyond looks.”
He adds, “Aimed to revolutionise the concept of socialisation, Alyke is a dream come true for me. It is great to see people, who are battling loneliness, find authentic friends with this app.”
Alyke boasts of a unique feature called ‘Female Only’, addressing a significant gap in existing apps where women users often face unsolicited advances from strangers. This feature facilitates a safe and comfortable space for them. Besides, its ‘Interest Filter’ helps connect people with similar interests, making it easier to build meaningful friendships. Moreover, the ‘Instant Friend’ option swiftly links people with those who match their vibes in the blink of an eye.
With Gen Z being the loneliest generation, Alyke helps these young people find friends that match their personalities and interests. Unlike dating apps, the main highlight of the user profile is not a selfie but an avatar that users can create. User profiles are designed in a way to ensure that looks never become the sole criterion while connecting with people. The app paves the way for genuine connections by focusing more on the personality of the users than laying stress on superficial appearances.
