The analyses are based on the smartphones launched in India in 1H 2022. The analyses on the number of smartphones launched on 4G/5G cellular technology.

Regarding smartphone launches on cellular technology, 51% of the smartphones launched in 1H 2022 are on 4G cellular technology, and 49% are on 5G cellular technology.
In Basic (Below Rs 7000) segment, 100% of the smartphones launched are 4G. Four OEMs launched the smartphones, which are itel, Lava, Nokia, and Tecno.
In Affordable (Rs 7001 – Rs 15000) segment, 91% of the smartphones launched are 4G, and only 9% of smartphones are 5G. Three OEMs, Poco, Realme, and Vivo, launched 5G smartphones under this price segment. Amongst them, Poco launched the maximum 5G smartphones.
In Affordable Premium (Rs 15001 – Rs 30000) segment, 38% of the smartphones launched are 4G, and 62% of smartphones are 5G. In this price segment Infinix, One Plus, and Xiaomi are the OEMs that launched the smartphones on only 5G cellular technology. Other OEMs who launched the smartphones under this price segment maintained their portfolio with the launch of smartphones on both 4G and 5G cellular technology.
In Premium (Rs 30001 – Rs 60000) segment, 100% of the smartphones launched are 5G. Ten OEMs launched smartphones on only 5G cellular technology in this price segment.
In Super Premium (Rs 60001 – Rs 100000) segment, 100% of the smartphones launched are 5G. Only five OEMs launched smartphones under this price segment: Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, One Plus, and iQoo.
In Supreme (Above Rs 100001) segment, 100% of the smartphones launched are 5G. Only one OEM launched smartphones under this price segment which is Samsung.

On 4G cellular technology, a total of 51% of smartphones were launched by various brands. Vivo launched the maximum, 16% 4G smartphones in 1H 2022, followed by Realme and Oppo with 12% each. Four OEMs haven’t launched any 4G cellular technology smartphones in their portfolio One Plus, Xiaomi, Apple, and Asus.
On 5G cellular technology, a total of 49% of smartphones were launched by various brands. Samsung launched the maximum, 18% 5G smartphones in 1H 2022, followed by Realme with 16% and Vivo with 12% in 1H 2022. Some OEMs in 1H 2022 haven’t launched any 5G smartphones in their portfolios, such as Nokia, Lava, itel, and Micromax.
OEMs used maximum MediaTek for the launches of smartphones based on 4G cellular technology in 1H 2022. MediaTek chipset was used in 45% of 4G smartphone launches in 1H 2022, followed by Qualcomm with 28% and Unisoc with 24%.
In 1H 2022, OEMs for their 5G cellular technology-based smartphone launches utilized the Qualcomm chipsets the most. 54% of 5G smartphones launched are on Qualcomm chipset, followed by MediaTek with 37%.
For the 4G smartphones launched in 1H 2022, from MediaTek OEMs utilized the Helio G96 the most, from UNISOC, OEMs used the T612 chipset the most, and from Qualcomm, all the OEMs utilized only a single chipset which was Snapdragon 680.
For the 5G smartphone launches in 1H 2022, OEMs used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 695 chipset the most, and from MediaTek, OEMs used the Dimensity 920 and Dimensity 900 chipset the most.
