The analysis based on the smartphones launched in India in Q3 2022. The analysis on the number of smartphones launched on 4G/5G cellular technology.
Regarding smartphone launches on cellular technology, 52% of the smartphones launched in Q3 2022 were on 4G cellular technology, and 48% were on 5G cellular technology.
In the Basic (Below Rs 7000) segment, 100% of the smartphones launched are 4G. Three OEMs launched smartphones under this segment: Infinix, Redmi, and Itel.
In Affordable (Rs 7001 – Rs 15000), 84% of the smartphones launched were 4G, and only 16% of smartphones were 5G. Only Five OEMs launched 5G smartphones under this segment Infinix, Redmi, Realme, iQoo, and Samsung. The only OEM that hasn’t launched any 4G smartphones under this segment was iQoo.
In Affordable Premium (Rs 15001 – Rs 30000), OEMs maintained their 4G smartphones portfolio, with 30% of smartphones launched and 70% launched on 5G. Only five OEMs that haven’t launched 4G smartphones under this segment were Motorola, Samsung, One Plus, iQoo, and Redmi.
Eight OEMs launched the smartphones in the Premium (Rs 30001 – Rs 60000) segment, and all were 5G smartphones. Four OEMs launched two 5G smartphones each, and the other four OEMs launched one 5G each.
Super Premium (Rs 60001 – Rs 100000) and Supreme (Above Rs 100001) were the price segments under which all the smartphones launched were 5G smartphones. Only three OEMs launched smartphones under those two price segments, and OEMs were Apple, Samsung, and Asus. Apple was the one that launched the maximum number of smartphones under both price segments.
On 4G cellular technology, a total of 52% of smartphones were launched by various brands. Tecno, with 17%, is the OEM that has launched a maximum number of 4G smartphones in Q3 2022, followed by Infinix with 14% and Realme, Redmi, and Vivo with 11% each. Six OEMs that haven’t launched 4G cellular technology smartphones in their portfolio were Nothing, Google, One Plus, iQoo, Asus, and Apple.
On 5G cellular technology, a total of 48% of smartphones were launched by various brands. Apple, with 14%, is the one that has launched the maximum number of smartphones on 5G cellular technology, followed by Realme, Oppo, Samsung, and Motorola, with 9% each in Q3 2022. Some OEMs in Q3 2022 haven’t launched any 5G smartphones in their portfolios; OEMs were Poco, Itel, Lava, and Nokia.
OEMs used MediaTek maximum for their 4G cellular technology-based smartphone launches in Q3 2022. MediaTek chipset was used in 60% of 4G smartphone launches in Q3 2022, followed by UNISOC and Qualcomm, with 23% and 14%, respectively.
OEMs in Q3 2022 for their 5G cellular technology-based smartphone launches utilize the MediaTek chipsets the most. 44% of 5G smartphones launched were on MediaTek chipset, followed by Qualcomm with 41%.
For the 4G smartphones launched in Q3 2022, from the UNISOC, OEMs used the SC9863A chipset the most, and those who launched 4G smartphones in Q3 2022 on Qualcomm used only a single Qualcomm chipset which was Snapdragon 680.
For the 5G smartphone launches in Q3 2022, OEMs used MediaTek’s Dimensity 810 and Dimensity 1300 chipset the most and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 695 the most.
